A global push for green office practices and a cornerstone government contract has spurred new business for international electronics recycler Global Investment Recovery, which recently purchased 80,000 square feet of industrial space at 725 Greg St.

Global Investment Recovery, which specializes in salvaging precious metals from outdated electronics and telecommunications equipment, occupied 55,000 square feet at Parr Boulevard for the past four years.

The expansion gives the company additional capacity for electronics recycling, says founder and Chief Executive Officer David Ritter.

Global will transition to its new building over the next four months.

The company, headquartered at Tampa, Fla., employs 58 workers locally and expects to expand to at least 80 employees by the end of the third quarter, General Manager Josh Macauley says.

Ritter notes that the primary reasons behind the expansion are increased recycling volume from its larger customers and increased volume from military bases located in Nevada, California, Utah and Washington.

Global Investment Recovery, which employs roughly 340 workers overall and expects its workforce to reach 400 by the end of the year, is the U.S. Department of Defense’s primary contractor for electronics recycling.

“We’ve had growth for 16 years and there is no end in sight,” Ritter says. “We are doing the opposite of what the general media perception is of the U.S. economy.”

Global secured its new site through Dave Simonsen of NAI Alliance’s industrial properties group.
