PDL BioPharma revenues



PDL BioPharma of Incline Village earned net income of $50.1 million on revenues of $120.3 million during the three months ended June 30. The company earned $77.2 million on revenues of 125.9 million during the same period last year.

Reno-Sparks foreclosures



In the first six months of the year, 6,804 homes in the Reno-Sparks area — one in 27 homes — received foreclosure notices, RealtyTrac reports. The number is a decrease of 6 percent from the previous six months, but a spike of 4.4 percent from the first six months of 2009.

Boomtown profits



Pinnacle Entertainment, which operates Boomtown Hotel and Casino, says the property earned a profit of $529,000 on revenues of $10,365,000 for the fiscal second quarter ended June 30. The property earned $82,000 on revenues of $10,588,000 in the same quarter last year.

WENR upgrades transmitter



WENR Corp., parent of Ngensolutions LLC, which operates TV station KELM-43, has upgraded its transmitter at the East Red Peak antenna facility southwest of Reno. The upgraded transmitter is scheduled to become operational in August and allows better transmission and reception of the television signal.

Newmont production



Newmont Mining Corp. produced 420,000 ounces of gold from its Nevada operations in the quarter ended June 30 compared to 417,000 ounces mined during the same period last year. Production costs ran $601 an ounce in the quarter.

Taxable sales dip



Taxable sales in Washoe County for the month of May fell 3.8 percent from year-earlier figures, the State Department of Taxation reports.

Retail vacancy



NAI Alliance reports that the overall vacancy rate for retail space in Reno-Sparks stands at just over 17 percent. Line shop vacancies are at 22 percent, anchor vacancies are at 14 percent — all are record highs.

Itronics sales rise



Reno-based Itronics reports that silver sales rose 24 percent in the second quarter compared to year-earlier figures. The company sold $193,200 worth of silver re-captured from spent photo processing fluids compared to sales of $155,200 in the second quarter of 2009.

Construction job losses



The Reno-Sparks area shed 28 percent of its construction workforce in the 12 months between June 2009 and 2010, the Associated General Contractors reports. The region’s construction workforce shrunk from 11,800 jobs to just 8,500.

Cemetery expansion



The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has allocated $499,900 for expansion of the veterans cemetery at Fernley. The work will include development of three acres.
