CAEK, Inc., a female-founded Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) company based in Reno, on Wednesday announced that it has entered into an exclusive agreement with Henry Schein Dental, a division of Henry Schein, Inc., to sell CAEK's uniquely designed HIPAA compliance software LayerCompliance.

Henry Schein is the world's largest provider of health care products and services to office-based dental, animal health and medical practitioners.

LayerCompliance is a cloud-based tool designed to help healthcare practitioners navigate the requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), a federal law that provides privacy and security standards to protect patients' health information. LayerCompliance assists users with the management of their data security program through an online dashboard and tools that help streamline the process.

"Henry Schein is proud to team up with CAEK and offer more solutions to help clinicians address the growing issue of meeting federal HIPAA regulations in order to protect patients' personal data," Nuss, director of business solutions, Henry Schein Dental, said in a press release. "Our customers depend upon Henry Schein to continually deliver innovative technologies that enhance the efficiency of their practice and we believe that LayerCompliance will help provide that efficiency."

CAEK was founded in 2013 in Arkansas and moved its base to Reno last year.

"We are excited to work with Henry Schein because of their dedication in assisting office-based dental practitioners, of which Henry Schein has access to approximately 90 percent in the United States," said Katie Lay, CEO of CAEK, Inc. and cofounder with Anna Green, Catherine Ganahl, and Elizabeth Green.

"HIPAA regulations are designed to protect patients' personal health information, which is a huge responsibility for any organization, but especially for independently owned clinics that don't have the time, tools or resources."

With LayerCompliance helps clinicians modernize the regulatory compliance process by providing users with online access to the interactive elements that help guide dental practices through the requirements of the HIPAA Security Rule.

The program includes risk analysis, tailored policies and procedures, and the ability to easily document compliance activities.

"Clinicians shouldn't be left with paper checklists or manual binders to meet regulations for protecting electronic patient data," Lay said. "Technology and innovation are critical for the modern healthcare practice. Providers need smart, dynamic resources, and we're here to provide those."
