Domestic violence statistics

1999 statistics compiled by Advocates to End Domestic Violence workers in Carson City:

- 674 domestic disputes (violent and verbal)

- 419 arrests, 82 of whom were repeat offenders

- 457 protection orders filed (with Advocates assistance), 56 of whom were men.

- 222 stalking orders (with Adocates assistance), 18 of whom were men.

- 1,278 court accompaniments with Advocates, 24 of whom were men.

- Yearly budget through grants and donations, approximately $600,000 from 14 secure funding sources.

- 24 workers for a 52 emergency shelter and a 14 bed "transistional housing"

85 percent of women who complete five-month program do not re-enter violent relationships.

Carson CIty:

1998, 9.6 domestic violence crimes per 1,000 - 496 cases

1999, 9 domestic violence crimes per 1,000 - 472 cases

Nevada:

Domestic violence occurs every 32 minutes, 16 seconds in Nevada.

Cohabitants are 1 1/2 times more likely to be involved in domestic violence than married couples.

Caron City stats for 2000 (through August):
