Obituary: Fred John Rea

A memorial service for Fred John Rea, 75, a Carson City resident for the past 25 years, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Rea died Dec. 10, 2000, at his home. He was born Feb. 12, 1924, in Seattle to James and Alma Biermann Rea.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Hayward, Calif.

Mr. Rea worked part-time for the past seven years as a security guard for Great Western Security. He was the former owner of the Y-NOT Bar in Carson City from 1978-86. He was a life member of the U.S. Submarine Veterans.

He served in the U.S. Navy During World War II in "Silent Service" submarine duty. He served on the USS Bashaw, USS Blackfin and USS Boardfish. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal and Philippine Liberation Medal, Submarine Combat Insignia and Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jacklyne in 1994 and brother David in 1999.

Among his survivors are his son Albert Whipple, of Mound House; daughter Susan Buckner, of Washoe Valley; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Burial will be at Chapel of the Chimes Cemetery in Oakland, Calif.

Cremation will be at Walton's Carson Sierra Crematory.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
