Obituary: Norman Lewis Rabe

A graveside inurnment service for Norman Lewis Rabe, 96, a Carson City resident for the past 41 years, will be at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City on Friday at 10 a.m.

Mr. Rabe died July 3, 2000 at Nevada Cares in Carson City. He was born Sept. 19, 1903 in Sheridan to Henry Rabe and Faye Stark.

He was raised by his grandparents, Christien and Sophia Rabe, on a ranch in Gardnerville until the age of 13. He then went to live with his father and stepmother on a ranch in Carson City until 1917. He graduated from eighth-grade grammar school in Empire, Ormsby County.

He married LaVerne Pezzola in San Francisco in 1938.

Before moving back to Carson City, he lived in San Francisco.

Mr. Rabe was a cab driver in San Francisco for 35 years. He also worked as a security guard at the Capitol until retiring in 1977.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Service from 1920 to 1921. He was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Carson City.

Mr. Rabe was preceded in death by his wife LaVerne.

Among his survivors are his sister Evelyn Bird of Carson City; brother Emil Rabe of Dayton; son Richard Rabe of Silver Springs; daughters Sally Bennett and Sue Larson, both of Carson City; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory. FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangments.
