WNCC registration begins Monday

Summer is still in full swing, but students at Western Nevada Community College must start planning for the fall.

Registration for classes for returning students begins Monday and continues through the first week of classes, which begin Aug. 28.

Anne Hansen, director of marketing and information at the college, said the sooner a student registers, the better it is for that student and for the college.

"By arranging schedules now, there will be a better chance to attend in August," she said. "It also helps the college order the correct number of texts and tells us if we need to add more sections for a popular class."

Students can register over the telephone or on the Internet.

Hansen said the college tries to serve the various needs of its students.

"Our classes are offered in the morning, afternoon and evening time slots to accommodate students who work," she said.

She said the college also offers a wide array of classes to fulfill a variety of requirements.

Career-oriented classes include accounting, business, computer and office technology, criminal justice, nursing and computerized medical and dental billing.

Classes leading to a transfer degree include anthropology, chemistry, English, geography, geology and history.

New student registration begins July 24 and students can talk with faculty members Aug. 22 and 24 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at WNCC Carson City, Douglas and Fallon.

Class schedules for the fall semester have been sent to every mailing address in Carson City, Minden and Gardnerville. The schedules are also available at libraries, chambers of commerce and WNCC campuses.

New students must submit an application and will generally be able to register for classes within 24 hours.

To register call the touch-tone telephone registration system at 887-3130 or visit the Website at www.wncc.nevada.edu.
