WASHINGTON - Archway Cookies is recalling 100,000 packages of cookies because they contain eggs without listing them as an ingredient, which might endanger people allergic to egg products, the company said Wednesday.
The Battle Creek, Mich., company issued the recall for Gourmet Rocky Road cookies because of a recent packaging change that left eggs off the list of ingredients, the company said in a statement. Archway said it hasn't received any reports of illnesses related to the label change.
The recalled Gourmet Rocky Road cookies come in 12-ounce packages with the printed dates ''June 5'' through ''August 25.'' The ''Sugar Free'' version of the cookies is not included in the recall.
Plants in Boone, Iowa, and Ashland, Ohio, produced the mislabeled cookies, which were distributed nationwide except for several states. Those packages sold in Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New York, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Washington state don't contain the label error.
People allergic to eggs could experience a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they eat the cookies.
Consumers can return the product to the store where purchased for a full refund or an exchange. People with questions can call Archway toll-free at 1-888-427-2492 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. EDT.
