Dayton Senior Center celebrates Older Americans Month

The Dayton Senior Center celebrated Older Americans Month by honoring its many volunteers at a luncheon.

Bob Milz, Lyon County commissioner for Dayton, along with Site Manager Shannon Coday and Emily Newpher, program manager for Lyon County Senior Services, presented more than 25 volunteers with a certificate and carnation for the dedication and service to the center.

Special honors from Gov. Kenny Guinn went to Ray Wade and Mary Cross, who received the Senior Samaritan Award. The award can only be received once by those nominated. Wade has been a volunteer for six years at the center, Cross for 12.

Wade and Cross were nominated for the honors by Coday. Coday said she selected the two for their outstanding efforts, dedication, contribution and services to the Dayton Senior Center.

"Ray and Mary have always gone beyond what is asked of them to help," said Coday. "They are most deserving of the governor's award."
