Five killed in northern Nevada traffic accident

SCHURZ, Nev. - A 19-year-old man is the lone survivor of a single-car accident in northern Nevada that claimed the lives of five others over the weekend.

The accident occurred around 7:20 p.m. Saturday on U.S. Highway 95 Alternate, about nine miles north of Schurz.

Four of the victims were identified early today as Jerimiah Waltman, 21; Shawna Demars, 24; Jesse Demars, 5; and Margaret Riddle, 2. All were from the Fallon area, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

A 19-year-old man died later at Washoe Medical Center in Reno after being taken off life support. His name was not immediately released.

The survivor, who is also 19, suffered broken bones and was recovering.

Officers said the six people were in a southbound car that crossed into the oncoming lane, left the roadway and rolled several times.

All were ejected.
