Letter: Doctors, nurses who care make difference

A wish. I wish there could be a group of doctors who would only care for the elderly and sincerely liked old people. When I moved here 20 years ago, I was in the beauty salon business. Many of the elderly were unable to come to my place because they had to depend on others to get there. When I learned of this, I went and picked them up, brought them to my place and would make them all pretty. I then took them back to their homes and made sure they were comfortable. I loved helping these old people.

Now at 92, I never thought I would be in the same fix. Well, it did happen, and I am so lucky to have some friends who are doing the same things for me. I was in the Rehab Center recently and must comment on one nurse, Michael, who was great. I asked him how come he was so helpful. His answer was, "I love my work and am doing what I hope will be done for me." The others were great, but Michael acted the way he felt. He sincerely cared about us and always asked if there were anything else he could do for us. I am happy to say that my wish has come true. I now have a doctor who not only makes house calls to his patients, he takes all the time with them needed and really works hard to make them well again. He cares! His name is Dr. White.
