The post office is always being bashed by someone, even me at times! When the post office does something to be more efficient and cost conscious, some people still bash it.
The plastic bags mean that the mail is sorted ONCE, which means less chance of lost mail. The carrier can now deliver the mail as a packet, making delivery faster. The plastic bag also helps when the customer walks to the cluster mail boxes and the weather is bad; the mail stays dry.
The bags are recyclable and therefore reusable. The address label does contain advertising which helps defray the costs of the postal service. The critics may also believe that advertising is bad (profits too).
