Mansion undergoes renovation

The fountain behind the Governor's Mansion was torn out Thursday afternoon as part of the renovation of the mansion's back yard.

Jack Finn, Gov. Kenny Guinn's press secretary, said the fountain didn't work.

"There was a safety concern," he said. "Some of the concrete was starting to chip away and the first lady was concerned."

Finn said first lady Dema Guinn envisioned a new patio behind the mansion.

"There is eventually going to be an enclosed domed patio area," he said.

A barbecue pit may also be in the works for the back yard.

Finn said the work is being done courtesy of Harvey's Resort and Casino.

"They originally donated the fountain and they are the ones who are working to get it out of there," Finn said.
