Most agencies in state steer clear of computer virus

CARSON CITY - Marlene Lockard, director of the Nevada Department of Information Technology, received four ''ILOVEYOU'' e-mails Thursday - but she deleted them rather than being flattered.

''We sent out a broadcast e-mail this morning to everyone on our network to be aware of the problem,'' she said of the global computer virus that crippled computers around the globe Thursday.

She wasn't aware of any big problems in state agencies, but the Legislative Counsel Bureau was not so lucky. Its e-mail operations were shut down Thursday after some staff and lawmakers opened the virus.

''We kind of got loved to death today,'' said Allan Smith, manager of information systems for the Legislature.
