Obituary: Richard Paul McFarland

Richard Paul McFarland, 77, of Carson City died Thursday at his home.

Mr. McFarland was born Sept. 6, 1922, in Licking County, Ohio, to Fred and Edna Young McFarland.

He served in the U.S. Air Force for 34 years, serving during World War II, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War and retiring as a colonel.

He had lived in Carson City the past 16 years after moving here from Centerville, Ga., where he lived for 10 years.

Mr. McFarland was a member of Carson Masonic Lodge #1; Kerak Shrine Temple of Reno; Quiet Birdmen, Retired Officers Association of Carson City; F&AM, Carson City; Scottish Rite, Valley of Reno, order of Quetzalcoatl, and Royal order of Jesters, Court #33, Reno.

Survivors include his wife Lois McFarland of Carson City; daughter Sandra Nippel of Torrance, Calif.; sons James A. McFarland of Atlanta, Ga., and M/ Sgt. Mark Hendrickson of Hereford, Ariz.; sister Jane Holtschulte of Bakersfield, Calif.; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Walton's Chapel of the Valley, 1281 North Roop Street, Carson City, with a graveside service following at Lone Mountain Cemetery, Carson city.

Walton's is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, CA 95817.
