Police say man apparently killed family, then himself

NICHOLSON, Ga. - A woman and two children were found stabbed to death in their home and the woman's husband had been fatally shot in an apparent triple murder-suicide.

Deputies were called to the home in this rural northeast Georgia community, about 10 miles north of Athens, Monday evening after a neighbor spotted the woman sprawled on the porch.

Authorities believe Calvin Griffin, 32, stabbed his wife and their two children and then shot himself, said Jackson County sheriff's Maj. David Cochran. Laury Griffin, 25, Riley Griffin, 6, and Joshua Griffin, 5, all suffered multiple stab wounds, Cochran said.

''In 16 years as sheriff, I have encountered murders and suicides, but never involving small children,'' Jackson County Sheriff Stan Evans said.
