Regents form search committee for new chancellor

Thalia Dondero of Las Vegas will head the committee to search for a new chancellor to head the University and Community College System of Nevada.

Chancellor Richard Jarvis resigned the position during the 1999 Nevada Legislature and left to help form an international distance-learning university.

Administration finance vice-chancellor Tom Anderes was named acting chancellor and will remain in that post while the search goes forward.

The other regents on the search committee are Doug Seastrand, Dave Phillips, Dorothy Gallagher and Jill Derby, who chairs the board.

In addition, regents agreed to include two presidents from Nevada campuses, two faculty members and one student on the search committee.

The board also selected a panel Thursday to decide if they should conduct a formal search to name a founding president of the Henderson state college they decided to create Wednesday.

Mark Alden will head that committee, joined by Howard Rosenberg, Dondero, Doug Hill and Gallagher.

That group's first task will be to decide whether to conduct a search or to name Community College of Southern Nevada President Richard Moore to the post without a search.

Moore has solid support for the post on the board.
