WASHINGTON - Justice of the Peace Kent Sawson and U.S. Magistrate Roger Hunt have both won unanimous committee support for confirmation as U.S. district judges in Nevada.
The two were nominated by Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., who has that privilege as senior member of the state's U.S. Senate delegation.
Reid said that clears the way for final confirmation by the U.S. Senate. When that occurs, he said, it is up to Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott, R-Miss., but he has made a strong case that the workload justifies their quick confirmation.
