Sanctioned dog trial begins Saturday

The Quicksilver Agility Club will host its first spring Australian Shepherd Club of America/Northern American Dog Agility Council sanctioned trial at Fuji Park on Saturday and Sunday.

Hundreds of dogs directed by their owners will be racing against the clock, jumping over hurdles, galloping through tunnels, climbing up A-frames and dog walks and teetering across seesaws in competition.

The club has experienced phenomenal growth during the year and a half since it began. President Carrie Dempsey attributes this to the fact that, "Agility is the most fun you can have with your dog!"

The sport is not limited to purebreds. Many of the most talented dogs are rescued from the pound. Agility trials are divided according to the experience levels of the dogs - novice, open and elite and by size. All the competitions are run along guidelines for fairness and good sportsmanship.
