Tax increase on agenda for Wednesday

DAYTON - A 20-cent tax increase continues to be the center of discussion for local fire officials.

The Central Lyon County Fire District Board has placed the tax initiative issue at the top of tonight's agenda.

At a special meeting on April 29, the board voted to put the 20-cent increase on the November General Election ballot.

However, District Chief Bill Driscoll has emphasized the board wants increased input as to what level of service the residents of the sprawling 640-square-mile district want.

Board members say they do not wish to address the districts problems with a Band-Aid approach and a 20-cent tax hike is needed to meet the needs of the next five years.

The Central Lyon County Fire District meets at the Sutro Station, 231 Corral Drive, beginning at 7 p.m.
