Woman will admit to computer thefts

A preliminary hearing for a husband and wife in a rash of computer thefts was canceled Wednesday when the wife agreed to plead guilty.

Stacy Campbell, 26, will admit one count of possession of stolen property in Carson City District Court in exchange for a recommended probationary sentence and cooperation in solving several thefts.

Stacy's husband Christopher, 25, remains in the Carson City Jail in lieu of $28,605 bail. He was arrested May 1 on charges of burglary, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of stolen property.

Investigators believe the Campbells are responsible for a series of 17 computer thefts valued at $22,000. Although investigators consider the cases solved, they have said connecting hardware to the site from which it was stolen has been difficult.

Deputy District Attorney Anne Langer said part of Stacy Campbell's plea agreement depends on tying up those inconsistencies.

"Her involvement in this has been far less than her husband," Langer said. "She has been very cooperative in the investigation."

A plea agreement with Christopher Campbell might be pending, she said.

The couple is suspected of burglarizing several area law offices, the Nevada Public Defenders' Office and several businesses.

A tip led investigators to the pair. Chief Deputy Scott Burau has said the anonymous call may have been from someone with a vendetta against the couple.
