Obituary: Gilbert Basler Balwing

A funeral Mass for Gilbert Baseler Balwing, 54, a Carson City resident for the past 12 years, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley with a Rosary at 4 p.m.

Mr. Balwing died July 24, 2001 at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was born March 31, 1947, in Baguio City, Phillipines, to Anastacio and Dorotea Baseler Balwing.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived at South lake Tahoe.

Mr. Balwing worked in golf course maintenance. He loved golf. Everyone who knew him was touched by his compassion and warmth. He was a Catholic.

Among his survivors are his wife Pat, sons Gilbert J. and Sherwin and daughters Suzette Balwing and Shirley Arellano, all of Carson City; brothers Edmond of the Phillipines and Ferdenand of South Lake Tahoe; sister Marlene Sidney of South Lake Tahoe and grandchild Janelle Arellano.

Cremation will be at Walton's Sierra Crematory.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley, Crematory and Cemetery is in charge of arrangements.
