There she goes again

After receiving the outstanding achievement award June 23, Kathryn Rutman, 81, has been honored again.

This time it's not by the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, but by Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev.

Ensign heard about Rutman's achievements at Carson-Tahoe Hospital and gave her a Congressional award thanking Rutman for her "outstanding volunteer spirit and dedication to the senior citizens of the Carson City community."

"I can't get over all this. People who go to jail don't get this much attention," Rutman joked.

Rutman is also a 58-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Ladies of Masons and belongs to the hospital auxiliary which earns money for the Carson-Tahoe Hospital.

In her spare time Rutman says she sews latch hook rugs by hand.

"I love to be with people and anything I can do to help people, I do."

Rutman has been married to her husband, Lennie, for 37 years.

"I've always known my wife was special and now everyone else is discovering it," he said."She has to be doing something and she enjoys the public."

Rutman has worked the reception desk at the hospital for 19 years and volunteered more than 5,000 hours of service.
