Veterans Hospital takes extra precautions in wake of attack

Reno's Veterans Administration Hospital is maintaining an open facility with heightened security, according to spokeswoman Lisa Howard.

The four main entrances have extra security and all other entrances will be locked.

"For those that need to come in as walk-ins, our doors are fully open and we're fully staffed," she said.

"It sounds like our city not as closed as San Francisco," she said. "I was just on the phone with our regional director and that city is closing." Hospitals in San Francisco are open, but parts of city, schools and military bases are closing, according to Howard.

Neither Carson-Tahoe Hospital nor Washoe Medical Center is taking any extra security measures at this point. Those directives would come from county officials, according to Washoe Medical Center spokeswoman Kim Tollman.
