Gambles honored for community work

GARDNERVILLE -- Judge Dave Gamble and his wife, Diane, were honored Wednesday at the second annual All Service Club Prayer Breakfast held at St. Gall Pastoral Community Center in Gardnerville.

The Gambles were recognized for their continued dedication and hard work with the City of Refuge, a home for unwed mothers. The home was founded and is operated by the Gambles.

Douglas County Sheriff Ron Pierini was the first recipient of the honor.

"The Gambles are people in our valley who put a lot of themselves into the well-being of our community," said Greg Partamian, former president of the Minden Rotary and one of five coordinators for the prayer breakfast.

"This breakfast is a way of honoring them in a light, religious environment. It's also non-denominational. We hope the community enjoys it."

The clubs hosting the event were Minden Rotary, Soroptimist International, Minden Fort Nightly, Sertoma and Kiwanis. Partamian noted all service clubs in the valley were invited. A representative from each club served as a planner.

"We hope it will grow as word gets out," said Partamian.

"Each of the persons recognized have deserved it," said Tom Umphries of Minden. "Well deserved it."

Several pastors spoke about the Gambles and their efforts to help young women.

Brian Borgman of Grace Community Church said the Gambles are not only assets to their church but the community.

"The Gambles' work at City of Refuge is motivated by their commitment to life," said Borgman.

"Dave and Diane demonstrate they are pro-life by their deeds. City of Refuge is an act of love to the girls who choose life. No matter what they do, it is for the glory of God."

"When I found out this was for us, I got a little nervous," said Diane Gamble.

"But this community is like this. They're very supportive Ñ they can't do enough for us. They're always there for us.

"It's hard to say thank you for being honored for something you enjoy doing."

"It's humbling," added Judge Gamble. "It's hard to listen to nice things being said about yourself.

"We're doing this out of a calling for the Lord. That helps make it easier to accept."
