A proud matriarch

Laura Flaxa, 94, is the proud matriarch of five generations of the Flaxa family.

This isn't the first time Laura's family has seen five generations, she said.

When her great-grandson, Jeffrey, was born, Laura's mother was still alive and they had a picture taken to celebrate that occasion.

Laura was born on a ranch in Sacramento, Calif., and moved to Carson City 14 years ago to be closer to her children.

"I like it here it seems to me the nicest place to live," Laura said.

Laura's daughter-in-law, Carol Flaxa, lives in Smith Valley.

Carol's daughter, Liz Sabo, lived in Carson City as a young girl and moved, but returned in 1980.

"It's unusual that my son was fifth generation and now his son is fifth generation," Liz said.

Liz's son, Jeffrey Sabo, 22, graduated from Carson High School in 1997 and joined the Navy.

While stationed in San Diego Calif., Jeffrey met his wife Tamy, and the two were married in 1999.

On June 7, 2001 Tamy gave birth to the family's fifth generation, Jonah Sabo.
