Using baseball caps as goal markers, eight Silis and Gonzalez cousins set up an impromptu soccer game Monday in Mills Park.

"We came here to swim and we just decided to play soccer after," said Jesse Silis, 14, an eighth-grader at Eagle Valley Middle School. "It's like one of our favorite sports."

School children throughout Carson City took advantage of warm weather the first day of spring break, filling parks, pools and shopping centers across town.

Deciding what to do was easy for the eight cousins gathered in the park.

"If there's a ball, we always play soccer," said Fernando Silis, 7, a first-grader at Seeliger Elementary School.

Temperatures hit 76 degrees Monday and the National Weather Service forecasts more of the same through the end of the week.

Carson High School senior Cicely Valenti, 18, has her week planned full of activities.

She is spending Monday and today working at the Legislative Counsel Bureau but plans to head to Pyramid Lake on Wednesday.

"I'm going to swim all day," she said. She will spend the rest of the week with her grandparents in Orange County, going to Disneyland and Huntington Beach.

"I'm ready for summer," Cicely said. "It's great. I'm glad I don't have to drive in the snow anymore."

But not everybody is as happy with Mother Nature. Ramses Silis, 15, a freshman at Carson High School, moved from Mexico City six months ago and has not adjusted to the dry climate.

"I don't like the weather here," he said. "I like the rain."

Perhaps he will change his mind once it is warm enough to head to Lake Tahoe.

"It's almost lake weather -- the best is going to Lake Tahoe," Cicely said. "You can go swimming, lay on the beach, jump off rocks and go hiking. It's just gorgeous. It's prettier than any other lake I've been to."
