A service for Jack Elberon Craner, 60, a Minden resident for the past 44 years, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Spruce and Deseret, Minden.
Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday at FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home and at the LDS church from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Mr. Craner died April 13, 2002, in Mazatalan, Mexico. He was born Dec. 2, 1941, in Wallace, Idaho.
He graduated from Carson High School in 1960 and attended Brigham Young University.
He married Gareth Ringler Greil of Carson City in July 1977.
Mr. Craner began work for the state of Nevada Highway Department, Right-of-Way Division. After his military service, he was employed by the Ormsby County Assessor's Office before going to work for the Washoe County Public Works Department as Chief Right-of-Way Agent. He retired in 1989.
He enjoyed oil painting, boating, fishing, hunting and world travel, including a trip to the Vatican where he saw the Sistine Chapel and other Michelangelo masterpieces.
He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam with the 82nd Airborne Engineers Division.
Among his survivors are his wife Gareth; sisters Goldia Williams of Preston, Idaho and Nelda Chamberlain of Minden; sons Dean Patterson of Yakima, Wash. and Doug Patterson of Gardnerville; daughter Mary Dianne Minami of Vista, Calif.; six grandchildren; three nephews and five nieces.
Burial will be at Lone Mountain Cemetery.
