Obituary: Juanita Virginia Etchegoyhen Gabica

A funeral service for Juanita Virginia Etchegoyhen Gabica, 72, will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Winnemucca.

Mrs. Gabica died April 14, 2002, at Humboldt County General Hospital in Winnemucca.

She was a first generation daughter of Basque immigrants, born on July 23, 1929, to Justine Arrestogui Etchegoyhen and Jerome Etchegoyhen who settled in this country in the early 1900s.

She graduated from Humboldt County High School in 1948.

She married Daniel Gabica, Jr., on June 4, 1951, in Lovelock.

Mrs. Gabica was a homemaker, and together with her husband, she owned and operated the Downtown Motel in Winnemucca for 26 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her sisters Stella, Norma, and Eileen.

Among her survivors are daughters Dana Rae Gabica Baker and Juliana Gabica; grandchildren, Darcy Justine Baker, Ross Michael Baker, Caroline Elizabeth Gabica and Gabriel Daniel Gabica; sister, Anna Marie Etchegoyhen Burhans; brother Jerome Etchegoyhen Sr. and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Burial will immediately follow at the Winnemucca Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul's Catholic Church Memorial Fund.

Arrangements are being made under the direction of Albertson's Funeral Home in Winnemucca.
