Teen charged in woman's rape

A 16-year-old Carson City teen was arrested on charges he held captive and sexually assaulted a woman he met at a club Friday night.

The teenager is being held at the Juvenile Detention Center for suspicion of sexual assault, battery with intent to commit sexual assault, kidnapping, possession of stolen property and minor consuming.

According to police, the victim, a 22-year-old Gardnerville woman, told police she didn't know the teen, who is 6-feet 1-inches tall and weighs 210 pounds, but had met him while at a downtown Carson City bar.

Later, the victim went alone to another bar on Winnie Lane.

When she left there at 3:30 a.m., she told police, the suspect was outside.

"The two began talking. Things escalated very quickly and he began not only hitting her but restraining her," said Chief Deputy Scott Burau of the Carson City Sheriff's Department.

Burau said the teen dragged the woman across the street where he raped her, and then for three hours kept the victim under control through force and death threats, taking her into an apartment complex laundry room and raping her again.

At the final of three locations, on Michael Drive, the victim was able to escape from the suspect and flag down a passing vehicle. She and the motorist then flagged down a sheriff's patrol car at 6:30 a.m.

"Her face was bloody. She had obviously gone through an ordeal," Burau said. "Clearly with his size he easily overpowered her. Even though they met earlier in the evening and were acquainted to some degree, this is not a date-rape situation. This was a physically aggressive assault -- a rape."

Burau said officers later found the teen, with the victim's credit cards on him, in a field the 2000 block of North Carson Street.

The victim was treated for her injuries at Carson-Tahoe Hospital.

Trina Dahlin, of the Carson City District Attorney's Office juvenile division, said she will review the file to determine if the teen can be tried as an adult.
