Obituary: LuVerne Eugene Penney

LuVerne Eugene Penney, 80, a Dayton resident for the past six years, died Aug. 4, 2002, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. He was born Feb. 3, 1922, in Anoka, Minn., to Erwin and Emma Steindorf Penney.

He attended Washington High School in Anoka.

Before moving to Dayton, he lived in Chatsworth, Calif.

He married Betty Jane Hayward Sept. 29, 1968, in Canoga Park, Calif.

Mr. Penney was a machinist for 30 years with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. He was a jewelry maker, he enjoyed rock hunting, fishing and gardening and he loved music.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Among his survivors are his wife Betty Jane of Dayton; daughter Tamara Lee Wright of Simi Valley, Calif.; stepdaughters Lana Miller of Carson City and Darlene Edwards of Dayton; brother Allen of Minnesota; sisters Doris Kokkila and Shirley Sundeen, both of Minnesota; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A private family service was held.

Capitol City Cremation & Burial Society is in charge of arrangements.
