The west side of Carson City will light up and echo with the voices of a choir during Tuesday's campus-lighting ceremony at Western Nevada Community College.
The lighting ceremony will take be in front of the Bristlecone Building at 6:30 p.m., followed by a free performance of the WNCC Concert Choir. Everyone is invited to hear holiday music in Marlette Hall in the Cedar Building, beginning at 7 p.m.
"The students have worked real hard so it should be a good performance," said Bill Zabelsky, WNCC choir instructor.
Choir members have worked on Tuesday's performance since the beginning of the semester. The selections, from France, Germany and England, are as old as 700 years.
"They're traditional Christmas carols from the 14th and 16th centuries," said Zabelsky.
He also works with the Douglas High School Choir, for which he has earned several awards.
"Since he came (to WNCC), the size of the choir has more than -- my guess would be -- tripled," said Stephanie Arrigotti, WNCC artistic director of performing arts.
"Bill Zabelsky has done a fantastic job with this choir. I'm so grateful that he is sharing his talent."
Tuesday's performance will include "Holiday Bells," a 16th century French tune featuring WNCC graduate Ann Libby as soloist; "Still a Bach Lullaby" with a flute solo by Jessica McGuire; "Hodie: A Christmas Fanfare," written by Jay Althouse from a 14th century German melody; and "Now and Forever Christmas" with solos by Renee Lietz, Chuck Maynard and Nicole Cardinale. The finale will be "Sing Gloria," written by Mark Hays.
The WNCC Foundation will provide hot chocolate and cookies. The Carson City campus is at the west end of West College Parkway.
