Fund-raiser helps local skiers.

The 2003 Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation Winter Welcome is planned for 6 p.m. to midnight Friday at Harrah's Special Events Center.

Tickets are $75 each, or tables of 10 may be reserved by calling (530) 541-4567. The event includes silent and live auctions, a gourmet dinner buffet, cocktail music provided by Steve Giovenco of Kiva Rhythm and dancing after dinner by the band 11th Hour.

The auctions are offering:

-- Original artwork by John Rattenbury valued at $4,000, by Mersad Berber valued at $6,000 and by local favorites J.T. Raviz and Malcolm Tibbet's, and exclusive wooden artwork donated by David Gallegos of Hawaii and Sierra Gallery.

-- U.S. Ski Team gear donated by Jonna Mendes and Wisi Beschart.

-- Trips to Alpine Ski Training in Zermatt, Switzerland; surfing in Hawaii; biking in Moab, Utah; San Diego; Napa bed-and-breakfast getaways; an exclusive home in Sun Valley; pick of any Marriott Hotel; and private parties on the party boat with Capt. Ronnie Williams or the Action Watersports Windsong.

-- An afghan blanket handcrafted and donated by Andre Prevost, mother of Dr. Michelle Prevost, who skied for the foundation 20 years ago.

-- Donations by Cutting Edge, Sports LTD, Powder House, Zahbuu Boardinghouse and WomenSport.

-- Napa Valley wine selections and an Opus One Winery donation of a private, twilight, wine-tasting party.

The auction is the major fund-raiser for the nonprofit foundation, which supports athletes of the Alpine, freestyle and snowboard teams.
