Only 240 people in Nevada are unable to write. Colonel Shaw, of the Enterprise, is in this city. The Rev. Mr. Fairbairn will lead in a service today at the prison at 1 p.m. Mr. Grisham of Carson Valley was taken to the insane asylum on Friday. Day's stearic candles are almost as good as gas, and all the candle burns out. The Chinese man who was so badly beaten in Carson City a few weeks ago died yesterday. The body will be brought here.

100 YEARS AGO

Judge Mack at Dayton passed the death sentence on A. Buralli, who killed countryman Antone Zari on Nov. 3. The time fixed is Monday, Jan. 26, 1903. The place is the State Prison, and the warden is the hangman. Complications may arise to stay the law.

70 YEARS AGO

Mailers of Christmas cards won't have to worry about the 3-cent postage rate. Postmaster Frank Meder said if they use unsealed envelopes, they may go for 1 1/2 cents postage. The first Christmas package was taken in this morning, Dec. 9.

Births, Carson-Tahoe Hospital, Nov. 30, daughter to Mr. and Mrs. John Frank, Carson City; Dec. 1, son to Mr. and Mrs. David Salaz of New Empire.

Newly organized Western Shoshone National Council is to hold its first formal meeting Jan. 7 at Austin Town Hall. Chairman Jerry Millett said the national council is formed to provide a single unified organization to represent all Western Shoshones.

Alan Business Services, the Graphic Source, with Barry Wynott and Doug Reynolds, opens at 951 N. Stewart St.
