Obituary: Marvin Keliiaa

A Victory of Life service for Marvin Keliiaa will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward, Calif.

Visitation will be at 5:30 p.m. today at Chapel of the Chimes.

Mr. Keliiaa died Dec. 6, 2002, in Hayward.

He was raised in Dresslerville and attended Stewart Indian School.

He served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean War. As a seaman first class, he saw action at New Caledonia, Leyte Gulf and Guadalcanal; as an Air Force staff sergeant, he served in the Strategic Air Command, Fourth Air Force, 92nd Bomb Wing.

He was an avid sportsman and a founding member of the Bay area Native American Athletic Association. The association created an Indian athletic league for men and women participating in the federal government's relocation program. It included a basketball and softball league, and his teams traveled to many tournaments throughout the nation.

His favorite pastime was playing golf and talking about golf.

Among his survivors are his wife of 58 years, Helen; daughter Karen Corbett of San Ramon; sons Robert of Hayward and Roger of Castro Valley; grandchildren Billy, Kenny, Mara, Megan, Caitlin, Jacqueline, Eric, Brandon and Jason; and a great-grandchild Dylan.
