RSVP thanks its volunteers with luncheon

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program treated its volunteers to a holiday luncheon Monday at the Carson Nugget. More than 450 volunteers attended, along with local dignitaries.

Frank and Pauline Gordon of Gardnerville visited with Bob Eddy, also of Gardnerville, and Jim Thorpe of Carson City.

Thorpe has videotaped events for Carson Access Television for eight years and has more than 4,000 tapes in his archives.

"There's a lot of history there," Thorpe said. "I'd like to see them last 100 years so people can see what we did and looked like."

Janice Ayres, executive director for Nevada Rural Counties RSVP, thanked the volunteers for their dedication, compassion and hard work.

"Some of you are teachers for English as a second language, some of you are in the Home Companion program, and some of you volunteer at museums and other locations," Ayres said.

"From the bottom of my heart, thank you."

"This has been very nice," Frank Gordon said. "It's nice they did this."

The afternoon was capped off with more than 20 door prizes given away. Several couples danced to live music provided by Reminisce.

"I've been doing this 24 years," Ayres said. "Am I crazy?

"I try to show just a little bit of appreciation for what the volunteers do for their communities. It's not a big deal, but I wanted to give them an inkling of how much we appreciate them."
