Carson supervisors to set direction for Fuji Park

Carson City's Board of Supervisors will be asked Thursday by city staff members if they want to proceed with Fuji Park and fairgrounds development.

The board will be presented with the official results of the advisory question voters answered in November about whether Carson should have allowed the fairgrounds to be developed as retail space.

Voters turned down the option, with 53.9 percent voting against the sale of the fairgrounds.

Staff members will ask supervisors for direction Thursday to move forward with the Fuji Park Users Coalition on development of the fairgrounds and Fuji Park.

A conceptual site plan has been approved. The staff will now determine priorities and funding for the development of the site plan, according to reports.

If supervisors authorize staff members to move forward, they will put together a development plan, which will include identifying improvement and sources of potential new funds. Staff would then bring the issue back to the Parks and Recreation Commission and supervisors for future action, the report said.
