120 YEARS AGO

Members of Warren Engine Co. talk of disbanding on account of cold treatment they receive from the citizens of Carson in return for their gracious labors in putting out fires. They claim they were charged with having set fire to Torreyson's old blacksmith shop for the sake of giving the Comstock firemen a run. Thirteen of the company talk of resigning and allowing the 'feather-bed firemen' a chance to run the machine.

100 YEARS AGO

Yesterday, while rummaging around the old Appeal building, a report of the Commissioner of Agriculture was found. It is addressed to Abraham Lincoln and signed by Isaac Newton, commissioner of agriculture. It makes a strong plea for better cavalry horses (sized 16 hands and 1,200 pounds).

70 YEARS AGO

Leisure Hour Club plans a Christmas party with a short Christmas play, "A Christmas Reverie." It includes R.B. Jeppson, Mrs. C.A. Bovett, Mrs. Donald Olmstead, Mrs. Edith Knippenberg, etc. There is a Christmas tree, and every member receives a gift.

50 YEARS AGO

Bids for state highway department's new FM radio network include state patrol will be opened in January.

20 YEARS AGO

Special feature of Carson Nugget's $5 million remodeling includes Dick Graves leasing from Ella Broderick on March 4, 1954, a 40-by-80-foot location where Broderick's Bar was.

10 YEARS AGO

Services for Edward Parmenter, 79, a Carson resident for 35 years, worked for the Highway Department 1935-41 and on a wind tunnel for National Aeronautical Space Administration. He was past president of Carson Kiwanis and a member of the Carson Barbershop Quartet. Sons George and Ricky here, daughter Mary Lee Lujan in Reno.
