120 YEARS AGO

It is believed that Manager Abbey will bring Mrs. Langtry to Carson on her return east from San Francisco, a city in which she will soon appear. Michael Barrett of Empire, arrested for attempted arson, has for some time shown evidences of insanity.

100 YEARS AGO

Last day of the year was the scene of great activity at the Capitol building. All business left undone would have to go over and be left until after the next appropriation by the Legislature. Board members were signing bills as fast as they came in.

70 YEARS AGO

Federal prisoners are in the county jail in the basement of the courthouse, just across the street from the library. Mrs. Mary Nudson, assistant librarian at the state library, says they favor "highbrow" reading, comparative hobbies and beliefs. At one time, the jail contained 45 prisoners, and 40 were college graduates, reading such authors as Freud and the Talmud.

50 YEARS AGO

Carson City coffers are richer by $3,336 as a result of fines levied during 1952, Justice of Peace W.E. Dunfield reported today. There were seven cases for the coroner, including one murder.

20 YEARS AGO

Chief Justice Noel Manoukian administered the oath to Carson City's newly elected officials. Mayor Harold Jacobsen spoke briefly on his accomplishments at the Ormsby Public Library event.

10 YEARS AGO

Comedy at BAC: Patt Fiscus of Washoe Valley plays Mrs. Herbert Bracewell in the 1985 Broadway comedy, "The Return of Herbert Bracewell" (pictured).
