Two missing campers found unharmed

Two campers reported stranded on a ridge near Devil's Flat southwest of Lockwood were found safe Sunday by members of the Storey County Sheriff's Office with the help of the Washoe County Sheriff's RAVEN helicopter.

Kenneth Ardagna, 36, and Constance Moriarty, 37, both of Dayton, where stranded by bad weather on a camping trip to the backcountry of the Virginia Range.

They were found unharmed, and after examination by Story County emergency medical personnel were released.

Sgt. Jerry Pedersen of the Storey County Sheriff's Office said the rescue could have taken longer and been more dangerous to rescue crews had it not been for the quick response of the Washoe County helicopter.

Pedersen urged anyone planning to travel in the backcountry during stormy or unsettled weather to be careful.
