Searchers look for clues in Minden slaying

Search and rescue teams from Douglas and Lyon counties scoured both sides of Stephanie Way in Johnson Lane on Saturday for clues in a Feb. 10 slaying and assault on a neighborhood couple.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Lt. Kathy Tadich said only that search and rescue squads were helping in the office's ongoing investigation.

"I'm conducting a homicide investigation. I'm not going to comment," she said. "We don't have anything pertinent to release right now."

Search-team members also declined to answer questions.

The assault occurred just blocks from where a Lyon County search team worked Saturday at the corner of Vicky Lane and Stephanie Way. The team continued west on Stephanie toward Highway 395 using poles to pick through brush along the neighborhood street.

Christopher Fiegehen, 22, of Carson City, is being sought for the murder of Alan Chorkey, 50, owner and operator of a screen door repair and replacement business, and the attempted murder of Chorkey's wife, Lorelle.

The 54-year-old woman is being cared for in an area hospital after having surgery for a gunshot wound she suffered during the attack.

Fiegehen is described as 6 feet tall, with blue eyes and shaved blond hair with brown roots, and is considered armed and dangerous, according to the Sheriff's Office.

He is the estranged boyfriend of one of Lorelle Chorkey's daughters and was reportedly seen at 9 a.m. on Feb. 10 in Truckee, where authorities later found his abandoned pickup.

The couple had dated since May 1999 and broke up last month because of Fiegehen's "controlling attitude and physical violence," according to court papers.

Fiegehen is the adopted son of Carson City computer pioneer Allan Fiegehen, co-owner of Cubix Corp. and managing director-co-owner of the Ormsby House.

Friends of the Chorkey family have set up an account at Bank of America to help with the medical and other expenses. Donations may be sent to the Lorelle Chorkey family donation account No. 004965462161.

Funeral services for Alan Chorkey, a Minden resident for 12 years, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley in Carson City.

Anyone with information is asked to call Douglas deputies at 782-9935 or 782-9905, the Secret Witness line at 782-7463 or the FBI at 825-6600.

The FBI is assisting the search for the suspect. FBI Special Agent Gayle Jacobs said there had been no new information as of Saturday afternoon.
