A Clear Creek doctor is being held in lieu of $1 million bail, accused of kidnapping his former wife, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
Dr. Richard Conte is in custody, arrested Friday night for allegedly drugging and binding his ex-wife and taking her from her Utah home.
Members of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office located the woman at Conte's Clear Creek home in Douglas County late Friday afternoon.
Conte surrendered peacefully to Douglas County deputies a short time later.
Carson City officers were first on the scene, securing the perimeter until the FBI and Douglas County officials arrived, according to Scott Burau, spokesman for the Carson City Sheriff's Office.
Douglas County Sheriff's investigators are working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and officials from Utah to complete the investigation.
Conte graduated from the the University of Wisconsin and received his medical degree from St. Georges School of Medicine in Grenada.
He is board certified in both emergency medicine and family medicine.
Conte married Lark Gathright Elliott, a dental hygienist, Dec. 1, 2001 at St. Mary, The Virgin with Holy Cross Church, Bequia, St. Vincent and The Grenadines, West Indies.
According to the Douglas County Assessor's Office, Conte owns a home at 136 Jeffrey Pine in Clear Creek Canyon.
