Craft Faire planned at Carson High this weekend

Thanksgiving is still two weeks away, but Santa already is scheduling his first visit to Carson City.

Carson High School's annual craft fair will feature photo opportunities with the jolly old elf as part of the two-day fund-raiser.

Besides a chance to talk to Santa, shoppers will get an early start on completing their wish lists with strictly hand-crafted items -- and be entertained in the process.

Culinary arts students will serve holiday treats, and the band, choir and dance groups will perform intermittently.

Ilona Strull, who is organizing the fair through the parent-teacher association, is pleased to see the students participating.

"It's great to see them take part in this major fund-raiser," she said. "The funds come back to them."

Last year, the fair attracted more than 100 artisans and vendors selling everything from dried fruit and nuts to ornaments, toys and tie-dyed clothing.

Admission is $1.50 for adults, children are free. A canned food item will cut 50 cents off the admission price.

The fair usually brings in about $4,000, which helps pay for Safe Grad, an alcohol-free party for seniors on graduation night.
