No service for AT&T Wireless phones in Carson City on Friday

AT&T Wireless services scrambled to locate and fix a problem that snarled its cellular phone service in the Carson City area Friday.

AT&T wireless customers were without service for more than 12 hours beginning about 3 a.m. Friday, AT&T officials said.

A faulty configuration with a backup system caused the down time, which affected customers in Reno and parts of Carson City.

"It was a technical issue that has been restored," said Cindy Larsen, AT&T Wireless spokeswoman in Denver.

The manufacturer of the part had to be called out to fix the problem.

The company is not planning to compensate area customers for the outage, but will handle complaints on an individual basis, Larsen said.
