Girl hurt in collision

A Gardnerville teenager was cited for a two-car collision Monday night that resulted in her being taken by CareFlight helicopter to Washoe Medical Center where she was treated and released.

The 15-year-old girl, who has a driver's license, but was not identified because she is a minor, will turn 16 years old Nov. 10.

According to the Trooper Pat McGill of the Nevada Highway Patrol, the girl ran the red light at Lupin Road and Highway 395 and hit a Cadillac driven by John Athanacio, 79, of Carson City. Athanacio and a passenger were not injured.

The teen was cited for failing to stop at red light.

In Nevada, teens who have attended driver's training class can obtain a driver's license at age 15 years 9 months of age, McGill said.
