New BAC chief named

The Brewery Arts Center board of directors Thursday selected Mary Works to take over the director's chair from Joe McCarthy.

McCarthy is leaving the BAC for a position as the Carson City redevelopment director.

Works, assistant to the executive director of St. Mary's Art Center in Virginia City, starts her new job Monday.

Works was born and raised in Virginia City. She is a Carson High School graduate, and she earned a degree in cinema-television production from the University of Southern California.

Her career in the arts and arts administration includes management responsibilities, marketing, grant writing and research. She has feature film credits as a sound editor, film/video editor in movies and documentaries such as "Saving Private Ryan," "Chocolat," 'Titanic," and "The Talented Mr. Ripley." She made the independent film, "The Life and Times of the Red Dog Saloon."

Mary, her husband, Aaron Covington and son, Gabriel, are restoring an 1879 home in Carson City's historic district.
