A celebration of life for Wesley Koch, 90, a Silver Springs resident for the past 56 years, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in the reception hall of the Silverado Apartments, 3160 Elm St., Silver Springs.
Mr. Koch died Sept. 30, 2002, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital after a short illness. He was born Feb. 9, 1912, in New York, N.Y., to Richard and Lena Habber Macher Koch. His father was a New York City policeman.
He graduated from high school in New York.
He was one of the first lot owners in Silver Springs, having purchased land from the late Merl Peak who founded Silver Springs.
Mr. Koch was a journeyman painter with a top secret security clearance working at the White Sands Proving Center on the Manhattan Atomic Bomb Project and later at the Nevada Test Site. He was a member of the Painters and Paperhangers Union, AFL-CIO since 1930.
He served two years in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie, his second wife, Violet Bennetts, and his son.
Among his survivors are his stepsons and their wives John and JoRita Bennetts of Silver City and Harry and Margaret Bennetts of Olympia, Wash.; grandchildren Loretta Bennetts Brooks, Marie Bennetts and Paul Bennetts of Silver City and Kevin Bennetts and Brian Bennetts of Olympia, Wash., and one great-granddaughter Jessica Brooks of Silver City.
