Obituary: Ellen Olson Couch

A memorial service for Ellen Olson Couch, a Houston, Texas, resident for the past two years, and former 50-year Carson City resident, will be at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Houston.

Mrs. Couch died Oct. 4, 2002, in Houston. She was born in Reno to Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Olson.

She graduated from Reno High School and the University of Nevada where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta.

Mrs. Couch taught for many years in schools throughout Nevada, including Lund, Alamo, Eureka, Yerington, Stewart and Carson City where she ended her teaching career in 1972. She also served as the supervisor of the Nevada State School Lunch Program from 1950 to 1952. She contributed many years of leadership to the Nevada State Museum and the Federation of Republican Women. She was a member of P.E.O., Eastern Star, the Retired Teachers Association and St. Peter's Episcopal Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Lee Couch in 1952, brother Edgar T. Olson and granddaughter Jill Marie Morrison.

Among her survivors are her daughter and son-in-law Barbara Morrison and Walter Kachmar of Houston; son Bruce of Jackson, Miss., granddaughter Ardith Morrison Morgan of Collierville, Tenn.; grandson Daniel Couch and nieces Anna Marie Olson and Lisa Moody, both of Reno.

Burial will be at Lone Mountain Cemetery at a later date.

Waltrip Funeral Directors of Houston is in charge of arrangements.
