How do you know it's almost Nevada Day?

Because the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program's 17th annual Nevada Days Fair begins today in Mills Park and runs through Sunday.

The fair includes a fireworks show at 7:30 p.m. Saturday to help celebrate Nevada's birthday and to pay tribute to law enforcement personnel and firefighters of Nevada.

Midway West Amusements Carnival will offer new rides and midway games for the whole family.

Special this year is A-mazin' Beggin' Strips Bacon Races on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, sponsored by Purina.

The race features trained dogs who perform a search through an obstacle course to find their treats. Trainers will provide free educational tips for dog owners and giveaways. Dogs will perform at 1, 3 and 5 p.m. Friday, 3 and 4 p.m. Saturday and 12:30, 2:30, 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Hours for the fair are Wednesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. to midnight, Friday and Saturday, noon through midnight and Sunday noon to 10 p.m.

An opening day special of $10 for an all-day carnival ride pass is available Wednesday only.

Parallel parking will be allowed adjacent to the shoulder of Highway 50 along Mills Park for all the days of the event.
