Eighth Annual Coin Show scheduled this weekend

Some of the coins in that old penny jar in the back of the closet could be worth a fortune and this weekend is the perfect time to find out.

Sponsored by the Nevada State Museum, the Eighth Annual Carson City Mint Coin Show promises a little something for everyone, from history buffs to fortune hunters and according to museum officials, the show is touted as one of the prestigious and successful west of the Mississippi.

Forty dealers from across the western United States will offer Carson City minted silver dollars along with rare domestic and foreign coins, paper notes and currency, historical documents, tokens, gaming chips, stamps, books, jewelry, collecting supplies and many other unique gift ideas.

Most dealers offer free appraisals and Coin Press. No. 1, a historic press, will strike commemorative medallions with images of the state seal, state capitol and Pony Express. The medallions will be sold at the show.
